1. Sheet Music Use

Road to Virtuosity includes different types of sheet music and repertoire pages. Each piece may be marked as Public Domain, Non-Commercial, or Copyrighted.

Public Domain Sheet Music

Public domain sheet music may be downloaded, printed, copied, shared, performed, arranged, republished, sold, or used commercially, subject to applicable law in your jurisdiction.

Some public domain files may come from outside public domain sources. These files are provided for access, study, performance, and repertoire tracking, but they are not always created, typed up, edited, formatted, or engraved by Road to Virtuosity. Public domain files may not include Road to Virtuosity formatting, QR codes, custom engraving, or other Road to Virtuosity edition features.

The public domain status of a work may vary by country. Users are responsible for confirming whether a work is public domain in their own jurisdiction before using it commercially or redistributing it.

Non-Commercial Sheet Music

Non-commercial sheet music provided by Road to Virtuosity may be downloaded, printed, studied, and performed for personal, educational, and non-commercial performance purposes.

Many Road to Virtuosity non-commercial scores are carefully prepared, edited, arranged, or engraved by Road to Virtuosity or its contributors. These scores are designed to be clean, modern, readable, and practical for students, teachers, and performers.

Non-commercial sheet music may not be sold, commercially redistributed, republished as part of a paid product, uploaded to another sheet music platform, included in commercial collections, or otherwise used for commercial purposes without written permission from Road to Virtuosity or the applicable rights holder.

Copyrighted Sheet Music

Road to Virtuosity does not provide copyrighted sheet music files for download unless it has the legal right to do so.

Copyrighted pieces may still have Road to Virtuosity repertoire pages. These pages may include piece details, descriptions, levels, point values, videos, submission options, and progress-tracking tools.

Users preparing copyrighted works must use legally purchased sheet music, publisher editions, teacher-provided materials, or other lawful sources outside Road to Virtuosity.

Road to Virtuosity may provide links to third-party sellers or publishers where copyrighted sheet music may be purchased. Road to Virtuosity is not responsible for third-party transactions, pricing, availability, refunds, delivery, licensing, or customer service. Users must work directly with the third-party seller or rights holder.

2. Intellectual Property and Platform Content

Users must respect Road to Virtuosity content, formatting, descriptions, point values, classifications, certificates, website design, logos, software, databases, and other original platform materials.

Even when a public domain file is available through Road to Virtuosity, the Road to Virtuosity website, branding, descriptions, database structure, points system, student profiles, certificates, and other original platform content remain protected and may not be copied, scraped, sold, or used to create a competing product or service without permission.

Users may not remove Road to Virtuosity copyright notices, QR codes, branding, watermarks, or ownership notices from non-commercial Road to Virtuosity scores or platform materials unless written permission is given.

3. Video Submissions

Road to Virtuosity uses performance videos to verify completed repertoire, award points, support student profiles, and approve certificate progress.

There are two main submission types: Public Submissions and Private Evaluations.

Public Submissions

Public submissions are free and are reviewed by other Road to Virtuosity users.

For public submissions, users must submit a YouTube video link. A YouTube channel is required because the video must be viewable by community reviewers.

YouTube videos submitted for public review must be set to Public or Unlisted. Private videos cannot be shared, opened, or viewed by other users and cannot be reviewed.

Approved public submissions may earn points for the user’s account and may help build the user’s repertoire record.

Public submissions do not count toward certificates.

Private Evaluations

Private evaluations are reviewed by Road to Virtuosity admins and require a fee.

Private evaluations are required for certificate approval. If a user wants a performance to count toward a certificate, the performance must be submitted for private evaluation and approved by Road to Virtuosity admins.

The private evaluation fee may depend on the piece, difficulty, length, number of submitted performances, or certificate requirements. Paying for a private evaluation does not guarantee approval, points, or certificate credit. Fees pay for review and evaluation.

Certificate Submissions

Certificate performances are evaluated and approved by Road to Virtuosity admins only.

Public submissions, public evaluations, regular point submissions, community-reviewed submissions, and other non-certificate submissions do not count toward certificates.

To earn a certificate, users must complete all required pieces for that certificate and have each required performance approved through the private evaluation or certificate process.

4. Video Submission Standards

All submitted performance videos must meet Road to Virtuosity submission standards.

  • The video must include the full piece from beginning to end.

  • Videos with missing sections, repeated restarts, or incomplete performances will be rejected.

  • The performance must be recorded honestly in one continuous take.

  • Any cuts, edits, splices, altered footage, or edited-together performances will be rejected.

  • The performer must be clearly visible in the video.

  • For piano submissions, the performer’s hands and the keyboard must be visible throughout the performance. Videos where the hands or keyboard are hidden, unclear, or mostly out of frame will be rejected.

  • The audio must be clear enough to hear the performance accurately. Videos with distorted audio, extremely low volume, excessive background noise, or unclear sound may be rejected.

  • Minor mistakes are acceptable, but the performance must be prepared and complete. Performances with major note errors, repeated breakdowns, missing sections, or serious rhythm and tempo problems should continue to be practiced before being submitted.

  • The submitted video must match the piece, arrangement, version, and repertoire page selected on Road to Virtuosity. Videos submitted under the wrong title, wrong arrangement, wrong version, or wrong page will be rejected.

  • Road to Virtuosity admins determine the final evaluation standards for all pieces, submissions, points, rankings, and certificates.

5. Rights to User Videos and Performances

Users retain legal rights to their own video performances, subject to the permissions granted to Road to Virtuosity.

By submitting, linking, or uploading a video performance, the user gives Road to Virtuosity permission to host, embed, display, store, review, process, upload, or otherwise use the video as needed to operate the website, evaluate submissions, award points, verify certificates, display approved performances, maintain student profiles, and support performance tracking.

Road to Virtuosity may display approved submissions on Road to Virtuosity pages, student profiles, leaderboards, certificate records, or related areas of the website according to the current feature settings and privacy settings.

If direct upload is available, Road to Virtuosity may upload, store, or process submitted videos through Road to Virtuosity systems, including unlisted Road to Virtuosity YouTube channels or other third-party video infrastructure, for playback, verification, evaluation, certificate review, and performance tracking.

Rejected, incomplete, unnecessary, noncompliant, or removed videos may be deleted or disabled.

Users are responsible for making sure they have the right to submit the video, including permission from any performer shown in the video. If the performer is a minor, the submitting user must have permission from the performer’s parent or legal guardian.

6. Points, Rankings, and Admin Review

Road to Virtuosity points, rankings, and leaderboards are internal Road to Virtuosity systems.

Point values may be increased, decreased, corrected, recalculated, removed, or adjusted at any time if Road to Virtuosity admins determine that a change is necessary.

Approvals, rejections, points, rankings, certificate credit, and leaderboard placements are subject to admin review.

If a user earns points through public submissions, Road to Virtuosity admins may still review the submission later. Points may be deducted, increased, removed, or corrected based on admin review.

If a public submission is rejected by other users, the user may resubmit the video if allowed or request a paid private evaluation from Road to Virtuosity admins.

Road to Virtuosity does not guarantee responses to requests for review of public submission decisions.

If a user unfairly rejects other users’ submissions, abuses the public evaluation system, votes dishonestly, coordinates fraudulent evaluations, or attempts to manipulate outcomes, the user may lose evaluation privileges, lose points, have submissions reviewed, or have the account suspended or terminated.

7. Certificates and Competitions

Road to Virtuosity certificates are internal Road to Virtuosity recognitions. They are not official government, school district, conservatory, university, examination board, or professional credentials.

Certificate approval requires private evaluation by Road to Virtuosity admins. Public submissions do not count toward certificates.

Road to Virtuosity competitions, festivals, challenges, and events may have their own rules, deadlines, fees, judging criteria, prizes, and evaluation standards.

Road to Virtuosity admins may correct, modify, remove, or adjust certificate status, competition results, points, rankings, or approvals if errors, cheating, abuse, incorrect repertoire, technical issues, or rule violations are discovered.

8. Refunds and Final Sales

If a video is not approved because it fails to meet Road to Virtuosity standards, a refund is not available.

Private evaluation fees are paid for review and evaluation. Payment does not guarantee approval, points, certificate credit, or a certificate.

All transactions for certificates and competitions are final and non-refundable unless Road to Virtuosity states otherwise in writing or a refund is required by law.

All transactions for the BookStore, digital products, downloads, sheet music products, courses, memberships, events, and similar purchases are final and non-refundable unless Road to Virtuosity states otherwise in writing or a refund is required by law.

Refunds may be considered in the event of a technical malfunction, duplicate charge, fraud, or identity theft. Refund requests must be coordinated by email with Road to Virtuosity admins at [email protected].

Road to Virtuosity may request information needed to investigate a refund request, technical issue, fraud claim, or identity theft claim.

9. Lessons

Payment for lessons is due before the lesson begins.

Failure to pay for a lesson may result in cancellation of the lesson.

Scheduled online lessons require at least 24 hours’ notice for cancellation or rescheduling.

Lessons canceled or rescheduled with less than 24 hours’ notice may be charged at the full lesson price.

Teachers, lesson availability, scheduling rules, and lesson formats may vary. Road to Virtuosity may update lesson policies from time to time.

10. Communication Between Users

Road to Virtuosity does not currently provide a built-in private messaging system between users and does not publicly post user email addresses for direct contact between users.

Public submissions may use YouTube links, and users may choose to interact through YouTube or other third-party platforms. Road to Virtuosity is not responsible for negative communication, harassment, comments, disputes, or interactions that occur between users on YouTube, social media, email, messaging apps, or other third-party services.

Users should report abusive, inappropriate, or unsafe behavior through the relevant third-party platform’s reporting tools and may also notify Road to Virtuosity if the behavior relates to Road to Virtuosity submissions or accounts.

11. User Conduct

Users agree not to cheat, manipulate, abuse, or misuse Road to Virtuosity systems.

Users may not submit fake performances, edited performances, stolen videos, impersonated performances, AI-generated performances, performances by someone else without permission, or videos that do not match the selected piece.

Users may not create fake accounts, spam accounts, duplicate accounts, bot accounts, or use automated systems to submit, review, vote, scrape, download, or manipulate Road to Virtuosity.

Users may not harass, threaten, bully, abuse, defame, impersonate, exploit, or harm other users, Road to Virtuosity admins, teachers, evaluators, contributors, or staff.

Violation of these rules may result in rejected submissions, removed points, loss of evaluation privileges, denied certificates, account suspension, account termination, refusal of service, or other action determined by Road to Virtuosity admins.

12. Third-Party Services

Road to Virtuosity may use or link to third-party services including YouTube, Google, PayPal, external sheet music sellers, publishers, advertising providers, analytics providers, hosting providers, and other services.

Third-party services have their own terms, privacy policies, copyright rules, payment systems, moderation policies, and customer service. Road to Virtuosity is not responsible for third-party content, accounts, payments, copyright claims, video availability, takedowns, comments, refunds, or technical problems.

Users are responsible for following the rules of any third-party service they use in connection with Road to Virtuosity.

13. Account Termination and Enforcement

Road to Virtuosity may suspend or terminate accounts, remove content, reject submissions, remove points, remove rankings, deny certificates, disable videos, delete data, or restrict access if a user violates these User Agreements, the Terms of Use, the Privacy Policy, submission rules, copyright rules, payment rules, or applicable law.

Road to Virtuosity may also act to protect users, prevent fraud, prevent cheating, protect minors, maintain platform integrity, comply with law, or protect Road to Virtuosity rights and property.
