“Amazing Grace” is arranged here as an advanced piano solo with the hymn melody placed inside a fuller, more developed piano texture. Since this is my arrangement, I kept the melody clear and familiar, but expanded the setting with chordal statements, broken accompaniment patterns, a more active middle section, and a broader final return.

Measures 1–20 present the opening hymn material. The arrangement begins with a short chordal introduction, then moves into the melody with open left-hand support and simple broken motion underneath. The texture is still fairly spacious here, so the tune stays direct and easy to recognize.

Measures 21–36 continue the first large statement with more movement in both hands. The right hand adds thicker chord tones around the melody, while the left hand supports with bass notes and steady harmonic motion. This section gives the hymn more weight without becoming too heavy yet.

Measures 37–52 move into the main flowing middle section. The meter changes and the right hand uses continuous broken-note motion above a simpler left-hand foundation. This section shifts away from the more chordal hymn texture and gives the arrangement a lighter, more rolling sound.

Measures 53–68 bring back the hymn in a stronger final statement. The right hand returns to fuller chordal melody writing, while the left hand uses a more grounded bass-and-chord pattern underneath. The ending becomes broader and more hymn-like again, closing with a full final cadence instead of fading away.

Interesting fact: “Amazing Grace” has appeared in many films, but one of its most memorable movie uses is in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. During Spock’s funeral scene, the hymn is played on bagpipes as his coffin is sent into space, turning a traditional hymn into one of the most recognizable farewell moments in science fiction film.
